Torino : S. Zamorani, ©2001 The Judaean Desert or Judean Desert (Hebrew: מִדְבַּר יְהוּדָה Midbar Yehuda, both Desert of Judah or Judaean Desert; Arabic: صحراء يهودا Sahraa' Yahuda) is a desert in Israel and the West Bank that lies east of Jerusalem and descends to the Dead Sea.It stretches from the northeastern Negev to the east of Beit El, and is marked by natural terraces with escarpments. The Judean Desert is bordered by the Mountains of Judea on the west and the Dead Sea on the East.
A small desert, approximately 1,500 square kilometers, filled with treasures from nature and ancient Biblical history with mountain cliffs, rolling hills set beside plateaus, riverbeds set in deep canyons and braided by several rivers. Some of the rivers supply water year-round which creates oases. Historical discoveries in the Judaean Desert.
